Bulgaria is country with a future in winter and summer tourism, says world- renowned Alpine skiing celebrity Marc Girardelli. Austria’s skiing legend, with an impressive track record of 13 medals to his name from Olympic and World Skiing championships is a keen aficionado of Bulgaria’s skiing resort of Bansko and has been personally committed to promoting winter sports capacities in Bulgaria.
This year, for the second time in a row, five-times Alpine Skiing Cup holder Girardelli unveiled the skiing season at Bansko in the Pirin Mountain, one of the fastest developing skiing resorts in Southeast Europe. When a couple of years ago Girardelli was approached with an offer to become the resort’s ambassador, he eagerly embraced the proposal and committed himself to a series of promotional events, related to Bansko. Girardelli argues that Bansko is unique for the sheer number of modern-day hotels, lodgings-to-let, ski lifts and sporting facilities, which seem to be emerging by the hour.
Marc Girardelli has been very busy running his own business project at Bansko. Spreading over an area of 1 ha it will incorporate a sports hall, seating 5 thousand, football grounds, parking lots, an elite school for talented skiers, like the ones they run in Austria and other leading skiing countries. The project will amount to an EUR 8 M investment.” I would very much like us to build, over the next few years, a great Bulgarian skiing national line-up”, says Girardelli. Last year Marc visited Bulgaria’s Black Sea resorts for the first time.
