Over one billion euro has been invested in the wellness and spa industry in Bulgaria over the past twenty years. The sector has been the target of most of the recent investments in Bulgaria’s tourism.

This became clear from yesterday’s speech of Stefan Sharlopov, President of the Bulgarian Union for Balneology and Spa Tourism, delivered on the sidelines of the 18th annual congress of the European Spas Association.

Borovets hosted Drop The Mountain Borovets 2013 - the first mass bike ride on mountain terrain in Bulgaria. It started on May 11th, 0100 PM from Yastrebetz peak (near Top station of the Gondla lift - 2369 m. of altitude), then crossed Markudjik center still covered with snow and ended in front of the Rila hotel in the resort's centre.

The trail was 14 km. long and the organizer of the event arranged perfect conditions.

Thracian Cliffs Beach and Golf Resort will host the European Tour's 50th Volvo World Golf Championship.

After a three year stay at Spain's Finca Cortesin Resort, Volvo have moved this premier match-play championship to Thracian Cliffs in the Balkans as a part of new strategy to target geographical areas of interest by rotating the tournament to a different venue across Europe each year.

Sofia has been ranked the most affordable European travel destination by the Huffington Post’s European 3-Star Traveler Index.

Topping Price of Travel's European 3-Star Traveler Index for 2013—which compares the cost of a centrally located, well-reviewed three-star hotel, plus the cost of transportation, some activities, food and drink Sofia, earned the title of Europe's cheapest tourist city, coming in at under USD 50 a day.
