Bulgarian and Romanian organizations work over a project for marketing of Pilot Cross Border Tourist Products, which is being implemented within the framework of the Romania-Bulgaria Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. Project activities run from September 2010 till March 2012 and mainly concern the regions of Dobrich (Bulgaria), Constanta (Romania) and Silistra (Bulgaria). The leading organization in this project is International University College (Dobrich, Bulgaria). It is working in close cooperation with the other project partners – the Regional Museum of History (Dobrich, Bulgaria), Constanta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Shipping and Agriculture (Romania), Ovidius University (Constanta, Romania) and “Ovidius” High School (Constanta, Romania).
The project will strive to develop trans-border tourism in Dobrudzha by identifying, thoroughly studying and drawing attention to the 50 most attractive tourist sites in Bulgarian and Romanian Dobrudzha. The results of the project will include the development of 5 thematic cross-border tourist routes based on these 50 sites:
- a cultural/historical route;
- a craft route;
- an eco route;
- a culinary route;
- a festival route.
Each of these routes will be presented to tourists in the form of a virtual tour that will include tourist attractions in both the Romanian and the Bulgarian part of Dobrudzha, as well as nearby tourist facilities such as local restaurants, cafes, guest houses and hotels. Tourist guides will be developed for each of the 50 tourist sites.
The project will not strive to simply increase the flow of tourists to the region but to rather encourage the development of sustainable tourism that preserves the environment and the way of life of local communities, while at the same time encouraging local economic growth.
The Romania - Bulgaria Cross Border Cooperation Programme is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
