Specialists scanned the bottom of “Koprinka” Dam, to make the borders of the ancient town Sevtopolis, which is situated under the water.

Experts from the Thracian Institute and the Oceanology Institute from The BAS participated in the studies.
The ancient Sevtopolis was built during the IV th century BC by Sevt III.

The experts managed to find the walls of the Thracian town and marked its corner points.

“We are almost sure, that it was not demolished by the water. In 1984 the dam was emptied and the walls were clearly defined, which is a prove that they have been preserved.

The equal pressure of the water basin and the calm waters managed to preserve the stone walls,” said the archaeologist Maria Chichkova.

The scan is done for the fulfillment of the project for reveling the ancient town under the water.
It plans the construction of a concrete ring around Sevtopolis, in the middle of the dam. Thus the tourists will be able to reach it by boats and cutters.

Once visitors step on the ring they will be able to observe an incredible view towards the historical ruins.
