A Horse Parade in Momchilovtsi

A horse parade will open the festival dedicated to st. Theodore's day in Momchilovtsi, announced the President of the horse breeding association in the Rodopian village, Todor Popsavov.

The horses and their owners will gather in the farmyard, which is located in the vicinity of the village. Heading the procession will be a farmer, who will cerry the icon of St. Theodore, under the accompaniment of Rodopian music, performed by bagpipers.

The parade will pass through the village to reach the square in front of the community center, where they will be welcomed according to the traditions - with bread and honey, and the horses will be tied with martenitsa.
The horse racing will start afterwords. The horses will compete in several disciplines - race, towing companies. Will be selected the most beautiful and the heviest horse. Competitions for master riding, and for the most attractive grooming will take place during the event.
The celebration will begin at 11.00 AM, after a Mass in the Holy Temple "St. St. Konstantin and Elena" in Momchilovtsi.
For the 15th consecutive year Rodopian village organizes a celebration of Theodore's.
The village has 22 horses, which are used primarily for farm work and forestry.

Theodore's is also known as Horse Easter. It is celebrated on Saturday, the first week of Lent. This year st. Theodore`s day will be celebrated on 20 February.
