Competition brings down air fares

Dnevnik weekly, *with excerpts

Low cost carrier Germanwings said it is offering from Mar 26 promotional return air fares of 47 to 97 euro (with airport charges) for its Sofia-Cologne route.

Passengers are also eligible for hotels rates of 29 euro per night in Cologne, Berlin or Duesseldorf.

The carrier will launch flights from Berlin to Bulgarian Black Sea towns Burgas and Varna from mid-May.

The Austrian Airlines last week announced promotional fares for its service from Vienna to Burgas and Varna if seats are booked 21 days in advance.

Sofia-Rome is emerging as another hotly contested route currently being serviced by Alitalia, Bulgaria Air and budget carriers Wizz Air and MyAir.
