Bulgaria Capable of Developing Elitte Tourism

SofiaEcho, 26 Sept. 2007

According to the World Association Travel Agencies (WATA) Bulgaria had a “serious potential” to become a destination for elite tourism, WATA executive director Christine Fournier said on September 25 2007.

Fournier’s visited Bulgaria for the 2007 WATA General Assembly, which would be held in Sofia between November 15 and 17.

Tour operators from five continents would take part in the event in Sofia.

WATA’s board of directors chose Bulgaria to host the assembly before nominations of Slovenia, Malta, Dubai and Turkey. The board decided on Sofia because of its potential to develop elite tourism.

State Agency for Tourism and Sofia municipality would support the event.

Bulgaria offers an increasing variety of boutique and five-star hotels, spa resorts and interesting cultural and historical destinations.

Hosting WATA’s General Assembly would help the country attract more solvent tourists, he said.

WATA is the oldest union of tourist companies. Its members offer mainly individual and boutique travels, instead of mass tourism. More than 50 travel agencies from 40 countries on six continents are members of the association.
