The World Pays Tribute to Bulgarian Eco Toursim

The governmental Agency of Tourism announced that Bulgaria was chosen for a member of the two of the most important committees of the World Tourism Organization for the period 2007 – 2009.

The choise was made during the General Assembly of WTO, which is now taking place in Kartagena, Columbia. 700 participants from the 153 countries, members and 500 associated and affiliated members of the organization. Bulgaria is presented by the head of the Governmental Agency of Tourism Ms Anelia Krushkova and Stanislav Novakov.

There are 6 regional commissions in the WTO – for Europe, for North and South America, Afrika, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Ocean and the Far East. Representatives of the regional commissions are working for a certain period in the executive council of WTO.

Bulgaria was chosen for a member of the two mot important committees of the organization: The program Committee of Budget and Finance for the period 2007 – 2009. The commissions report before the Executive council of the organization for its future program and finance.

According to the Governmental Agency of tourism this is a great recognition of the impact of Bulgaria in the development of tourism in the region.

Bulgaria was also chosen as a vice president of the Commission for Europe of WTO for the period 2007 – 2009.


The Bulgarian representatives presented the theme “Ecotourism – an artifact for the preservation of nature and development of the rural regions in Bulgaria.” Bulgaria received world recognition as a patron in the development of tourism not only as an important economy factor, but also as an important instrument for regional development, nature preservation.
