About a thousand of foreign tourists gather every day to admire the tomb of the ancient Thracian ruler King Seuthes III, near Shipka, Kazanlak region, reported Iskra History Museum.
The interest to the UNESCO-listed historical place is constantly growing. Set against 3000 visitors in 2006 the number has exceeded 19 000 visitors this year. The tomb was discovered in August 2004 by a team of archaeologists headed by Georgi Kitov.
The tomb is of extreme value and beauty, the floor, the table and the ritual bed are covered with a gold woven carpet. Thracian tribes had many rituals and this fact explains why on the altar of the tomb the personal belongings of King Seuthes III were found. They were put there as the accessories for the afterlife and the symbols of his power, explain archaeologists.
