A National Geographic Movie will announce projects of Smolyan Municipal

Official representatives of “George Washington” University in USA visited Smolyan.
The delegation was represented by doctor Donald Hokins, who is one of the four persons praised with “Orpheus” award for contribution for tourism and the preservation of local communities across the world.

This award is presented annually by the World Tourism Association. Donald Hokins also represents the Alliance of Academic Societies and volunteer organizations supporting the development of tourism destinations, which have preserved natural and cultural – historical inheritance.

The main goal of their visit was identification of possible projects, which can be completed together with the university in Washington.

Smolyan Municipality presented two projects to the attention of Hokins – “Momchilova Fortress and “Biodiversity in Rodope Mountains - life underground and the light of the day”, which aims to analyze the risk of urbanization of the caves situated along the upper float of Arda River.
