Sofia municipality had plans for setting up three new parks in the city, Sofia's chief architect Petar Dikov said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily on April 17 2008. Work on two of the parks was going to start in 2009, Dikov said.
This would included expanding the current Vuzrazhdane garden in Zona B-5 borough to a 12-hectare park, as well as setting up a 18-hectare park in Lozenets borough. The third park was going to be in Mladost borough under the name Iztochen Park (East Park).
Work on the three parks was going to cost the city hall about one billion leva, Dikov said, without disclosing any details about where the money would come from.
The city hall had plans for the restoration of already existing green areas by giving them out on concession. Investors would be allowed to built their own entertainment facilities in the areas, as long as they restore green areas, alleys, benches and place guards.
“Of course we can not give large areas such as Borissovata Gradina (Boris' Garden) on a concession, but smaller ones such as Severen Park (North Park) are more suitable for the purpose," Dikov said.
