The Feast of Sofia
L. Lukanova
At the beginning of II century in Rome lived a pious Christian, whose name was Sofia. In her life she completely justified her name Sofia, which meant “great wisdom”. Her life was a string of good deeds. She and her thee daughters named Faith (bg. “Viara”), Hope (bg. “Nadezhda”) and Love (bg. “Lyubov”) who died as martyrs, were beatified saints.
Sofia indeed is the patron and protector of the capital of Bulgaria. Her monument looks down on hurrying people in the center of the city. The Church celebrates her feast today, but also all the Sofia inhabitants, too.
