Sofia Opens New Museums

“A Museum of the Bulgarian Contemporary Art will be inaugurated within days in Sofia, reported Sofia Mayor,” Yordanka Fandakova. It is constructed on EU financing and is located in proximity to Earth and People Museum in Southern Park. Some of the exhibits will be placed in the open in the museum’s garden. Within a month a Museum of Totalitarian Art will be opened in Darvenitsa neighbourhood, Sofia.

Concrete work is planned to begin on the Bulgarian Louvre, according to Fandakova. A couple of projects for EU financing await approval in the coming month. One of them is on the unearthing of archeological strata in Sofia downtown. Another one is for the establishment of a museum with St Sophia basilica and the third is on a museum to Sofia, planned to be accommodated in the buildings of Central Mineral Water Baths.
