Prince Boris I was the first Christian ruler of Bulgaria. He converted Bulgarian nation at the end of IX century and then retire into a monastery. We hadn’t been sure which the monastery that had this honor was till today.

And today, after excavating the basics of a bath and a toilet in the monastery complex Karaach Teke near Varna, archeologista are pretty sure that exactly this was the last home of Prince Boris I.

“The rooms were built exactly the same way as the other buildings of the complex – four lines of hewn stones and tree lines bricks. Similar luxurious construction, as well as the presence of a bath and a toilet is a reason the complex to be considered for related to the princely court”, said prof. Popkonstantinov. More over the ruins are from the end of IX and the beginning of X century.

During this year’s studing of the complex were found about 3000 new fragments of the mural decorations of the church, devoted to Virgin Mary. There is only one more decorated church from this early Christian period on the territory of Bulgaria. “This is one more evidence that in the monastery was put vast fortune, and for that evidence and the decoration, and the found enormous scriptorium, and the bath and the toilet”, prof. Popkonstantinov is categorical.
