The oldest prehistoric town in Europe found in Bulgaria

Bulgarian team of archaeologists unearthed the settlement near the town of Provadia which dates back to 4700 B.C. Archaeologists assume that the village was well known for its production of salt.

The remains of the town consist of parts of two-storey houses, a number of pits used for rituals, as well as remains of gates.

Another interesting fact, related to the excavations, is the golden treasure of Varna that had been discovered nearly 40 years ago and is considered the oldest golden treasure in the world.

Researchers and archaeologists say that the prehistoric settlement is extremely interesting, because of the huge stone walls, built around the town, which is something unseen in the excavations of prehistoric site in Southeast Europe.
