'Tsarevets' Hill-Favorite for Bulgarian Symbol

News.bg, Jan 14, 2008

"Tsarevets" Hill is favorite for global symbol of Bulgaria in the National campaign ‘Bulgarian symbols: choose your Bulgaria', announces money.bg
Tsarevets is a medieval stronghold located on a hill with the same name in Veliko Tarnovo (Northern Bulgaria).

It served as the Second Bulgarian Empire's primary fortress and strongest bulwark from 1185 to 1393, housing the royal and the patriarchal palaces, and is a popular tourist attraction.

The distance between the Cyrillic and Tsarevets is reduced to minimum and the Second Bulgarian kingdom's capital Tsarevets appears to be the winner, informed from Bulgarian Association for Business and Tourist Information (BABTI), an initiator of the campaign.

Who to become the Symbol of Bulgaria could be voted for on www.infobulgaria.info/bgsimvol to March 15.

Over 75,000 people gave their offer for national emblem.

The global symbol of Bulgaria will be cut over the Euro coins after Bulgaria's accepting of the Union's currency. National emblem will be included in multimedia advertisements, catalogues, will be put over advertising billboards over the border check points and highways.

Main campaign's focus is people's union and the idea of looking towards Bulgaria's history and culture to popularize the country, which otherwise enter the world's medias only when concerns to scandals, added the organizers.
