“Stage of Centuries” Again in Veliko Tarnovo city in Bulgaria

The national opera and ballet opens its 100 season with the super production “Turandot” by Djakomo Puccini during the festival “Scene of Centuries” on the “Tsarevets” hill in Veliko Tarnovo. The play by Puccini is directed by Plamen Kartalov.

The event is being restored after 23 years break, right on the eve of the celebrations for the 100 year anniversary from the announcement of the Independence of Bulgaria.

The second festival evening is dedicated to the 100 anniversary of the birth of the composer Martin Golemanov and fragment from his opera “Ivailo” will be performed.

The artists form the “Arabesque” ballet will perform parts of the ballet suite of Martin Golemanov’s “Nestinarka” and from the ballet by Moris Ravel “Bolero”

The festival program will be closed on Sunday with the play “Zorba the Greek” by Mikis Theodorakis, performed by the ballet of the National Opera.

The tickets cost 10.00 BGN and a package ticket for three plays costs 20.00 BGN.

According to the director of the National Opera and ballet Plamen Kartalov the main goal of the festival is to transform it into the Bulgarian “Arena di Verona”, as attractive centre for cultural tourism.
