Velingrad – Spa Capital of the Balkans

Velingrad is “Spa Capital of the Balkans”. The title was given during the conference of the International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA), which took place in Monterey - Mexico. The official holiday of Velingrad, 4th of July, is listed in IHRA’s calendar. The traditional “Holidays of the culture in Velingrad” will start on that date in 2009.

Since 2005 Velingrad is also “Spa Capital of Bulgaria”, according to Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association. Velingrad municipality has no competition on the Balkan Penincula with its numerous mineral springs. This is a great advantage for Spa tourism and Spa services development.

The title “Spa Capital of the Balkans” will be officially announced with a festal ceremony, organized by the municipality administration. The President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov, and the leaders of Balkan states will be invited at the event.
