A British citizen has secured the approval of the local municipal authorities for the construction of two golf courses in the village of Aleksandrovo, South-eastern Bulgaria.
The project will be implemented by Solas Nua Aleksandrovo, a company wholly-owned by one Sharon Smith.
The 250-300 mln euro investment will be deployed in annual increments of some 20 mln euro or so over the next decade, said Valentina Marinova, chairperson of the city council in Straldja, the municipality that has jurisdiction over Aleksandrovo.
The Straldja municipality will contribute 311.5 ha of land to the project.
The golf resort, dubbed Wild Rose, will sport two 18-hole courses, training grounds, four-star hotel, spa center and some 1,000 villas. The complex will employ a staff of 1,000 upon completion.
The domestic golf destinations are starting to spread around after the initial cluster of projects around Razlog, Bansko and the Black Sea coast.
The last string of golf resort projects were announced for inland locations close to lake dams.
At the moment, three of Bulgaria’s existing golf courses are situated in the Sofia area with the fourth one located in Sliven.
