The main attraction of the Balchik palace is the wonderful Botanical Garden. Its ten hectares surround the impressive summer palace of the Romanian Queen Marie. (The area was part of Romania between 1913 and 1940).
The Quiet Nook Palace and its park are placed on area of 35 hectares.
Over 3000 plants grow here and this is proof that the climate in this part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is suitable not only for flora of Mediterranean plants but also for rare plant species from all over the world.
Among the masterpieces of the art of garden designing are the rose garden and the Garden of Cactus which is the second largest collection of cactus in Europe. It has over 250 different species.
The Botanic Garden is specialized in the growing of collections of tropical and subtropical exotic plants. Some exotic plants such as: candy tree, paper tree, ancient Ginkgo biloba, the resurrected Metasequoia glyptostroboides, sand lily, olives and many others.
You will enter a world of bright colors, blooms, trees and bushes can be seen in the garden. It is famous for its collection of succulents and cacti, which includes around 600 species, and the outdoor exposition of large size cacti and succulents spread over 1 decare is the second botanic garden of this type in Europe, the only one similar is based in Monaco.
The garden is a national centre for rare and endangered species under the Washington Convention. It is a member of the World Council of the Botanic Gardens, member of the European Network for Training and Ecology in the Botanic Gardens, and has been awarded the “Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius” II Degree Order.
It is not surprising that the park was included as a part of the teaching facilities of the Sofia University in 1955. Besides students, the complex welcomes more than half a million tourists per season. In 2005 In the Garden were open facilities for people with disabilities.
