There are more than 600 caves found in the Rodope Mountains and 4 of them are opened for tourists. These are “Snezhanka” cave near Peshtera, “Yagodinska cave”, “Dyavolskoto gurlo” (The Devil’s throat) and “Uhlovitsata” near Mogilitsa village. This was announced by Sergei Genchev, the manager of “Yagodinska cave”. The cave is very interesting tourist destination.

“Yagodinska cave” is located in the gorge of Buinovska River. The cave is 10 km long and 1100 m are opened for visitors. Tourists can see very interesting formation like stalactites and stalagmites. There are some formations like the “leopard skin” and the “perls” which are unique and they can be seen only in “Yagodinska cave”. The researching of the cave started in 1963. The tour last about 40 minutes and the temperature is 6° C.

A prehistoric dwelling is another very interesting discovery in the cave. There are well preserved tools and instruments. It is supposed that the site was a prehistoric pottery centre, because pottery remains were found in each cave in the region of Yagodnski Karst and Trigrad. A glaze-kiln was found in the “Yagodinska cave”. There is even a vessel full with corn. The vessel is slightly deformed but the corns are well kept. The finds date back from 4000 – 5000 years B.C.
