Bulgaria's Balchik to be Showcased at Plovdiv's Fair

Balchik's municipality has prepared a long-term advertising strategy for the showcasing of the area's potential for cultural tourism.

The project has been initiated by the mayor of Balchik, Nikolay Angelov.

The strategy will be known as "Land of Seven Civilizations".

Balchik will participate in the upcoming Plovdiv Fair "Exhibit of the Bulgarian Municipalities" with a large display.

The display will include, as a surprise for the visitors, the first complete presentation of the temple of Kibela Pontia - "the Mother of Gods". This was the archaeological discovery that gave Balchik its own cultural monument of global importance.

The sensational discovery was called by the experts "one of the most significant archaeological events of 2007".

Exceptional sculptures and an entire stone library with messages from the ancient residents of Dionis were found at the temple.

The Balchik stand at the Fair will also include a showcase of the Palace and the port of Batchik. The botanical garden of the University of Sofia will participate with a flower collection. In addition, the exhibit will present the Balchik Art Gallery - the oldest one in Dobrudja, housing nearly 1400 works of Bulgarian and Romanian master painters.

Other items from the Balchik's presentation include the panoramic, spatial maps of the Balchik coastal area and the resort "Albena" as well as the first tourist map of Dobrudja with a 1:100 000 scale.

The town will also participate in the Fair with its own artistic performance.

The Balchik showcase at the Plovdiv Fair is the first one for the "White Town". After the Fair's conclusion, the town will be showcased as an elite tourist and cultural center in several other European countries and countries along the Black Sea coast.
