National Geographic to Make a Documentary on Bulgaria's Rituals and Beliefs

A National Geographic team will shoot a film in Bulgarian town of Trigrad during the celebrations of Orphic mysteries.

The film will show Bulgarian rituals and beliefs that have been passed on from generation to generation, Focus news agency reported.

More than 500 000 UK tourists visited Bulgaria in 2006.

Many tourists came to Bulgaria, bought real estate and stayed in the country, UK deputy chief of mission Nick Leake said, as quoted by Focus news agency.

Leake was on a day visit to Smolyan during which he met the mayor of Smolyan and management of the regional administration.

Equest acquired 33.5 % of Rila – Samokov 2004 Joint Stock Company

The investment company Equest Investments Balkans Ltd (EIB) announced that it has acquired strategic indirect shares of 33% of Rila Samokov 2004 JSC – the company which will develop the Super Borovets project and possess land plots in the resort

According to the contract, EIB acquires 33,5 % shares in Rila Samokov, which has 1 977 131 land plots for construction in the resort. EIB invests 25,9 million Euro cash, which includes payment for shares and capital contribution in Rila...

Rhodope Mountains Attract Summer Tourists to Bulgaria

Bulgaria's Rhodope Mountains are gaining popularity among summer tourists. The most popular alternative holiday destinations are the villages around the rivers of Arda, Shirokolushka and those close to the town of Smolyan.

Accommodation in these villages costs from 10 to 15 leva (5 to 7.5 euro). The region is known for its traditional meals.

Archeologist Find Precious Artifacts at Thracian Tombs in Bulgaria

An archaeological expedition, led by prominent Bulgarian archaeologist Georgi Kitov, discovered various gold and silver artifacts in a Thracian funeral mound near the town of Sliven.

The expedition found several burial sites under the hill, dating back to the second and third century, Focus news agency reported.

Iordanka Radancheva, a member of the expedition, said that most of the bodies were unusually laid out, with the head pointing east, instead of west.
