Bulgarian hotels attract fewer Bulgarians, more foreigners in Q4 2010

The last quarter of 2010 saw a decrease in overnight stays by Bulgarians in local hotels and a considerable rise in foreigners' overnights, according to National Statistical Institute (NSI) data.

The average hotel occupancy rate, however, remained low in the period, at 14.3%, despite the slight increase of 0.7% compared with the year-earlier period.

Overnight stays by Bulgarian guests edged down 0.2%, while the number of foreign holidaymakers' overnights grew 21.7%.

The ski slopes in St. Constantine resort over Peshtera will be modernized

Peshtera municipality will allocate funds for the modernization of three ski slopes in “St. Constantine” resort, announced Mr. Petar Chilov, specialist in “Sport and tourism” department in the municipality.

The resort plans to construct new drug lifts and to buy a new snowplough, which will guarantee better maintenance of the ski slopes.

In march 2011 the municipality plans to approve a complete program for the development of tourism in Peshtera municipality for 2011-2016.

Ryanair to launch Plovdiv-Milan flight

Irish budget carrier Ryanair will launch flights from Bulgaria's southern city of Plovdiv to Milan's Bergamo airport, which will replace the Plovdiv-Barcelona service which was cancelled two days earlier.
The airline will service the destination two times a week, starting from May 7, according to information published on Plovdiv airport's website on Friday.

Bulgarian Winter Tourism Expects 5-10% Growth

Bulgarian Minister on Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, has stated the expected growth in tourism sector for the 2010/2011 winter season is 5-10%.

"Tourism is one of Bulgaria's economy sectors, which handled the recession the best," Traikov said Thursday at the opening of "Vacation & Spa Expo" in Sofia.

He said that the growth in the tourism sector in the country last year was 5%, while expectations for this year's winter season are for 5-10% increase.

The Cabinet to Allot 10M for Bulgaria’s Wonders

Bulgaria’s Finance Minister Simeon Djankov assured yesterday that the cabinet will allot 10M leva additional financing for ten of Bulgaria’s wonders.
