Velingrad – Spa Capital of the Balkans

Velingrad is “Spa Capital of the Balkans”. The title was given during the conference of the International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA), which took place in Monterey - Mexico. The official holiday of Velingrad, 4th of July, is listed in IHRA’s calendar. The traditional “Holidays of the culture in Velingrad” will start on that date in 2009.

Fresh powder under Todorka peak

Mountain rescue service announced hot lines in case of accidents in the mountain: +359 887100241, +359 749 88131.

The local authorities banned the traffic of heavy machines through the Predela pass during weekends and holidays, to provide easy access to the world famous ski resort Bansko.

10 cm fresh powder dumped for the last 24 hours in Bansko. The snow cover on the slopes in Bansko now reached 20 cm. The snow is still falling in the mountains and the whether is foggy.

A drag lift and a ski slope near Sopot resort in the Balkan Mountains in Bulgaria

A drag lift and a one kilometer long ski slope will connect “Nezabravka” and “ Dobrila” huts in Stara Planina near Sopot. This was announced by the mayor of the municipality Mr. Veselin Lichev. The construction of the equipment was officially approved by the Ministry of Environment and Water of Bulgaria. The New Lift in Chepelare Will Start Operating in December

A helicopter completes the installation of the new lift in Chepelare

The lift will renew the now existing old and slow cable car, which is almost 30 years old.
The modern high speed quad will start operating by mid December.
The new lift has a capacity for 2000 persons per hour and tourists from Chepelare will be able to reach “Mechi Chal” peak for just 9 minutes.
