Varna Airport will close for reconstruction

Varna airport will close for reconstruction after the end of the summer season for the period 15 October 2011 – 28 February 2012. Most air companies are now considering redirecting flights to Bourgas airport. Bulgaria air announced that all completed bookings will be redirected to Bourgas airport, where passengers will be transported to Varna by buses. The bus transfer will be additionally announced.

This year expected best for tourism in Bulgaria

At present, almost all of Bulgaria’s big resorts are full, announced Mr. Blagoi Ragin, president of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association.

The season has been good for the Southern and Northern Black sea coast, where tourist attractions such as golf and hunting have revived. Cultural tourism has received a boost, too.

“This year is expected to be one of the best in the tourism sector in the last 10 years”, Mr. Ragin pointed out.

61 Bulgarian municipalities to welcome tourists with reconstructed cultural, historical and natural attractions in 2013 summer

61 Bulgarian municipalities will have reconstructed and developed tourist attractions in 2013 when a 24-month projects worth some BGN 202 million will be accomplished under Regional Development OP, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova said in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.

Archeologists Discover Emperor Constantine’s Palace

The metro station in Sofia downtown may soon happen to house the residence of Byzantine Emperor Constantine I. The archeologists have not confirmed for sure the identity of the findings as excavations continue. All facts for now, however, lean towards the variant that the palace of the first Christian Emperor lies just under the square in front of St Nedelya Church.

The Madonna of Perperikon

The Madonna of Perperikon is the newest find of the archaeologists’ team of Professor Nikolay Ovcharov this summer. The archaeologists came across a part of medieval necropolis, where a young woman with baby in hands was buried in a chamber hewn into the rock. The discovery was made during the excavations in the eastern part of the Acropolis. Most probably the burial dates back to the period X-XII century as on it underlies the wall of a medieval church from XIII-XIV century, prof. Ovcharov...
