Bulgaria's Bansko Hosts European Cup DH Race

Bulgaria's winter resort of Bansko became the arena of the thrilling Europa Cup downhill ski race on March 7-8.

Winner of the first start became current European Cup leader Stefan Thanei from Italy with a total time of 1:24.55. Second was Cristoph Alster (AUT) with 1:24.68 and third place another Austrian - Peter Struger, with a time of 1:24.84.

The second DH race was won by Florian Scheiber (AUT) with 1:24.56 . Peter Struger (AUT) placed second with 1:24.83, while Mirko Deflorian (ITA)...

US Ambassador Visits Bulgaria's Vidin

The Ambassador of the USA to Bulgaria John Beyrle is going to visit Tuesday afternoon the northwestern Bulgarian city of Vidin.

Beyrle will have a meeting with the Vidin Mayor Rumen Vidov. They are going to discuss the opportunities for investments in the city by American enterprises, the development of cultural tourism, and the potential to advertise Vidin as a tourist destination in the USA.

Germans Rediscover Bulgaria as Tourism Destination

Germans started to book again holidays in Bulgaria after a two-year withdrawal, Dnevnik daily reported.
The signals came from the last week's International Tourism Bourse (ITB), the annual business-to-business industry event, reminded from the daily.

Tourism experts said German bookings in Bulgaria should see a 5% increase up to 400,000 in 2008.

Seaside Burgas and Varna airports' data showed that 390,000 German tourists came to the country on trips arranged by tour operators.

Sofia to Host World Sommelier Competition in May

Bulgaria has been chosen as the host for the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale’s annual general assembly and title-granting competition. Taking place from May 15 to 20 in Sofia, it is expected to welcome more than 300 sommeliers, wine makers, oenologists, industry professionals and guests.

With the purpose of naming the best sommelier in the world, the five days of the event include exhibitor stands; wine, coffee, water and cigar dégustations; visits to wineries and the competition...

Bulgaria to Develop Wine Tourism

Education Ministries of Germany, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania, Belgium, Hungary and Spain decided to include in educational project about wine in the frames of EU program ‘Leonardo da Vinci II'.

The program also previews the institutions, connected with the branch to propagate the wine tourism.

Wine tourism will offer culture program, connected with historical heritage, traditions, culinary and special activities of the settlement.
