Gold Coins Found in the Rhodopes

Archaeologists found a treasure of 79 gold and silver coins in a rocky area near the village of Galabovo in the Rhodope Mountains. The find consists of 5 Byzantine hyperpyrons and 74 Venetian grosso, announced the head of the team Dr. Borislav Borislavov from Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski". The coins were found just 30 cm under the ground in a cleft in a rock, covered up with stones, which is a typical of a Thracian offering. Bulgaria Marks Day of Botev and Others Perished in the Fight for Independence

Bulgaria marks Monday the 132 anniversary of the death of one of the most prominent Bulgarians - the publicist, poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev, who gave his life for Bulgaria's independence.

The anniversary will be commemorated all over Bulgaria with official ceremonies and laying of wreaths. At precisely 12 noon sirens invite people to pay their respect to Botev and all people who have perished in the fight for Bulgaria's independence by a minute of silence.

Kapital: Bulgaria is one of the Most Visited Destinations by Macedonian Citizens

Bulgaria is one of the most visited destinations by Macedonian citizens. This is probably a result from the similar life standards and prices, the Kapitalweekly newspaper reports in a special pull out for tourism.
Statistics show that 2.9 million tourists visited Bulgaria during the first seven months of the last year. That is a 4.4% increase.

New ferry connects Bulgaria and Romania over Danube

The new ferry complex connecting the Bulgarian port of Nikopol and the Romanian port of Turnu Magurele over the Danube River will opened in mid July, 2008.

The news was announced by Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Transport Dimcho Mihalevski during his visit to the northern Bulgarian town of Nikopol.

The ferry complex has been constructed already but some additional safety guarantees are being completed at the moment.

Highway to be Build in the Rhodope Mountain

The constructions of a highway in the Rhodopes will start in the few months.
This was reported by the vice minister of development Dimcho Mihalevski.

The highway will go through Gotse Delchev - Dospat - Borino - Devin - Smolian - Madan - Kurdjali and will shorten with hundred of kilometers the current round route through Borovets resort.
The project is ready and the first sod will be done in the beginning of 2009.
