17 charter flights scheduled at Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria

Plovdiv Airport welcomed the first group of foreign tourists who will spend their winter vacation in Bulgaria.

This was the first charter flight that arrived at the airport for winter season 2010/2011. The tourists came from London and will stay in Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo ski resorts.

Until New Year the airport will meet 17 charter flights with 3000 tourists from Russia, Belfast, Dublin and London.

Bansko expects over 15 000 tourists for the New Year Eve

Bansko will welcome over 15 000 tourists for New Year Eve. The resort is a preferred place for holiday and celebration for tourists from the neighbouring countries – Romenia, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece. Many tourists from Russia have also chosen the resort for a winter vacation after the holidays.

Bansko ski zone is ready to welcome all keen skiers. The resort offers over 20 cm snow and 230 cannons for artificial snow are ready to operate in case of need of additional snow.

CNN ranks Bulgaria in top 9 recommended destinations for 2011

The edition states that the New Year brings the customary yearning for a fresh start and the promise of new people and places, the right time to plan a journey. The travel editor Robert Reid from the Lonely Planed describes Bulgaria as safe and beautiful country.

Reid's favorite choice on that list is Bulgaria, which has the best Black Sea coastline for beach enthusiasts and offers great skiing in the mountains in the winter, he said.

Sofia candidate for European capital of Culture

It is better to start preparations early, the Sofia Municipality announced and launched a number of initiatives aiming at Sofia becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2019. This is the year when at the initiative of the EC, Bulgaria and Italy must apply with one city each. Residents of Sofia hope their city will be the one chosen to participate.

Over 70 000 tourists visited Aladzha monastery in 2010

Over 70 000 tourists visited Aladzha Monastery in 2010. Over 10 000 of them have watched the light spectacle “Legends from Aladzha Monastery”, announced the director of the monastery.

Visitors are predominately Russian tourists, who are impressed by the show, as the subject of the story is close to the Russian culture. Tourists from the Czech republic and Poland are also interested in the spectacle.
