Bulgaria Lures Arab Sheikhs with Hunting

Hunting will become one of Bulgaria's trump-cards in the race for attracting affluent tourists. The government relies on hunting tourism to lure rich guests from East Asia and Arab countries. Sheikhs and the cream of the Western-European society show interest in hunting tourism in Bulgaria, according to Anelia Krushkova, chair of the Bulgarian State Agency for Tourism. Pamporovo resort beds up 7 times in as many years

The bed capacity of Bulgarian ski resort Pamporovo has increased from around 2,000 in 2000 to 15,000-20,000 at present.

The municipalities of Smolian and Chepelare each have jurisdiction over a section of the resort and issue building permits for the respective territory.

According to the Smolian municipality, the number of beds on its section of the resort is around 12,000.

The Smolian municipality said it granted eight building permits in 2007 for a total of 2,000 beds.

Krasimir Gergov inspired govt golfing idea

The chairman of the local golf association Krasimir Gergov is behind the initiative of the government to set up a working group to draft a strategy for the development of the industry in Bulgaria, Gergov himself told Dnevnik. The working group was created in '07 while last week the government decided to incorporate Golf Development, a company that will implement golfing projects. The first land plot that will e developed is in Balchik. According to Gergov, Bulgaria should take cue from Turkey...

40,000 Culture Monuments in Bulgaria

The culture monuments in Bulgaria are round 39,800.

This was announced by the director of National Institute of Culture Monuments Georgy Ugrinov.

Just in the region of Sofia, the monuments are round 1,700.

Unfortunately one big part of the historical sights has been left without control and is crumbling.

The state is taking care of it, but the money is never enough, Ugrinov comments.

Bulgaria Govt Gives Green Light to Online Gambling

Bulgaria's three-way ruling coalition is to allow the online gambling through introducing some amendments in the law they agreed on at the two-day closed debates held in the resort town of Hisarya.

The structural plan of the country's state lottery will also be changed to result in expanding the distributing network - more companies will be allowed to sell tickets but not only the now existing stations.
