Burgas, Varna and Sofia are among the Top 100 city destinations

Euromonitor International released its latest Top City Destinations Ranking for 2011, covering 100 of the world's leading and most dynamic cities in terms of international tourist arrivals.

Hong Kong topped the ranking with more than 20 million arrivals in 2011, a nine percent increase over 2010. Bulgaria's Largest Kukeri Festival Started in Pernik

The mummers games in Pernik started yesterday. The festival in the miner's town were opened by the mayor of Pernik Rositsa Yanakieva.

Representatives from the National committee of UNESCO for Bulgaria will attend the event. They will observe the custom. The final decision is expected to be taken during the spring. A special commission in Paris will take the final decision.

Bulgaria is announced top Virgin money family destination 2013

Virgin Money recommended Bulgaria as a destination for family travel for 2013.
Bulgaria is recommended for its low costs yet high quality experiences, in particular for the tour of the Rhodope Mountains.

The report mentions the country’s popular skiing resorts, which attract thousands of tourists from all over Europe and the world, with world-class amenities and services, at a fraction of the cost. But there’s much more to recommend Bulgaria as a year-round destination.

Chepelare constructs a mountain bike park at Mechi Chal

Chepelare constructs a mountain bike park close to ski centre Mechi chal. The project will be supported by government fund “Agriculture”. The government will provide 387 352 BGN financial support. The project was presented in the program for the development of the rural regions 2007-2013. The new sport infrastructure will attract more tourists during the summer season.
Chepelare aims to become a year round tourism destination by diversifying the sport and relaxation attractions in the region.

Ancient Thracian gold treasure discovered in Bulgaria

Bulgarian archaeologists unearthed ancient golden artefacts, including bracelets with snake heads, a tiara with animal motifs and a horse head piece during excavation works at a Thracian tomb in northern Bulgaria.

The golden artefacts are dated back to the end of the fourth or the beginning of the third century BC and were found in the biggest of 150 ancient tombs of a Thracian tribe, the Getae, that was in contact with the Hellenistic world.

The oldest prehistoric town in Europe found in Bulgaria

Bulgarian team of archaeologists unearthed the settlement near the town of Provadia which dates back to 4700 B.C. Archaeologists assume that the village was well known for its production of salt.

The remains of the town consist of parts of two-storey houses, a number of pits used for rituals, as well as remains of gates.

Unique adornment dating back to the 2nd century at the museum in Veliko Tаrnovo

A unique adornment was added to the collection of the regional museum of history in Veliko Tarnovo, dating back to the 2nd century. The adornment is a tiger eye gemstone with the image of the Roman deity Genius.

The precious jewellery was found during the studies carried out by Prof. Pavlina Vladkova in the ancient city Nicopolis ad Istrum.

The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture.

Exhibition in the Naval museum in Varna

The Naval museum in Varna commemorates 100 years since the Balkan war with a special exhibition of the renown Bulgarian painter Vladimir Dimitrov - Maistora.

The paintings, depicting moments of the Balkan war, are less famous than his other works of art, but acknowledged all over the world. Most of these works are exposed at galleries in the United States and in Russia.

Vladimir Dimitrov – Maistora participated as a military painter in the Balkan wars and also in the First World War.

Unique excavations near the resort Sinemorets

The excavations of the Thracian palace near the seaside resort Sinemorets were rewarded with success. The archaeologists found a remarkable silver treasure which is believed to be part of the possessions of a Thracian ruler.

Some of the coins were depicted with the images of Lysimachos, Seleucus and Nikomedes, but what provokes great interest is a coin of Mostis, for there are only 3 coins of the kind, found in the whole world.

New location for the National History Museum under the project “Bulgarian Louvre”

The idea for the National History Museum to be moved from Boyana residence into the Central Department Store (Tzum) is about to be realized.

The offer came from the director of the museum, Bozhidar Dimitrov, 3 years ago. According to his words, the National History Museum is one of the most visited in Sofia and will attract much more tourists if its location is in the central part of the capital.

Until now, the museum has been visited in Boyana residence, but its distance from the center...
