Bulgarian Tourism in 2007

First year of membership in the Union reflects favorably on Bulgarian tourism image.
The interest towards Bulgaria is growing as well as the foreign tourist flux. More than 4 million tourists had spend their winter or summer vacation in Bulgaria this year.
Compared to 2006 the tourists are with 7% more.

More than 70% of the foreign tourists who visit Bulgaria are from the EU - mostly from Greece, Germany, UK, Sweden, Finland and other.

Skiing Conditions Good in Bulgaria

A week after the official opening of the season, the skiing conditions in all Bulgarian mountain resorts are good and many combine their Christmas holiday with a swoosh or two down the slopes.

In the resort of Pamporovo the snow cover is 60 centimeters, in Bansko and Borovest it reaches close to 2 meters. All ski runs are open.
Temperatures even at 2,000 meters above sea level range between -2 to -4 C below zero and the weather will remain calm and stable without strong winds.

Snow Fiesta for the New Skiing Season in Borovets

Over 5000 tourists attended the official opening of the new skiing season in Borovets on 23rd December. Exciting snow fiesta welcomed the guests of the resort in front of Rila hotel under the tender winter sun beams.

Borovets mountain resort welcomed its guests with sunny weather and more than 2 meters snow cover on the slopes. Most of the ski facilities in the resort have been working since 8th December due to the early snow that provided excellent skiing conditions in the Rila Mountain....

Austrian Wins Snowboarding Big Air Finals in Sofia

The Austrian competitor Stefan Gimpl won the Big Air snowboarding World Cup event, held in Sofia on Saturday, with overall standings leader Janne Korpi coming second.

The Slovenian Matevz Petek took the third place in the finals.
Bulgaria was represented by Mario Benyo, Dimitar Chokoev and Assen Lilov.

More than 2,000 passionate fans of the attractive sport gathered under the lights at the Knyaz Alexander Batenberg Square in Bulgaria's capital to enjoy the show.

Sofia Ready for Snowboarding Big Air Event

Sofia's city hall has completed the works on the ramp for Saturday's Big Air snowboard World Cup event in the downtown of the Bulgarian capital.

The ramp, which weighs more than 600 tonnes, is 100 metres tall, 32 metres long and 20 metres wide, towering over the Battenberg Square.

Although it has further slowed down traffic during rush hours on one of Sofia's main boulevards, the event's organisers have refused to move it to another location.
